About ‘Dancing with Gravity and Time’

Through my collection 'Dancing with Gravity and Time,' I explore the dichotomy of movement and stillness, and the role of mindfulness in capturing these moments in my artwork.

In these paintings, I capture the moment of transition between play and quiet, when the body is still fluid and connected to the energetic movement that came before. With frenetic, wet-on-wet, high-energy movements that settle softly, I bring this capering moment to canvas, retaining memories of the energetic process in the dried splatters and dynamic flowing drips that have become frozen in their movement by the inevitable passage of time.

The Dancing collection glints with the energy of the moment that was, reflecting on the physical and temporal nature of paint coming to stillness as it dries. Through a core set of vibrant pigments in a variety of formulations, I showcase a range of fluid dynamics within these abstract landscapes by working the paint while it is wet and letting it rest and recover to settle and flow.

Dancing with Gravity and Time is a collection of 9 mixed media paintings, including my largest to date at 48”x60”. These abstracts delve deep in blues and golds with accents of turquoise, magenta, purple, and soft yellow, meandering through different viscosities and saturations. A conversation on deceptive stillness, Dancing is a metaphor for change that reminds us that in stillness there is still flow.

At the intersection of play and change, Dancing invites us to engage with static objects and meditate on their history. As viewers sit with these paintings, they are invited to meditate on movement (or its absence) over time. Notice what is. Notice how you move from dancing to stillness. How will your now-wet paint be present in your future, connecting you to your own moments of movement to stillness, stillness to movement?

Through 'Dancing with Gravity and Time,' I hope to convey the beauty of movement and stillness, the importance of mindfulness, and the impact of the invisible forces of time and space that shape our lives and all things around us. Join me on this journey and discover the power of capturing these fleeting moments in your own life.
